Artwork > Namtenga Soundo Babisi

The Namtenga Soundo Babisi is a weaving studio in Burkina Faso, West Africa. In 2007, my students and I helped establish this studio by funding the building of a brick and mortar studio, purchasing fifteen looms, and hiring a weaving instructor. Over thirty women have learned to weave beautiful and unique cloth. Currently, Cranbrook sells their products and creates new hip designs using the Namtenga cloth. We work in collaboration with Detroit creative entrepreneurs: fashion designers, sewers, and interior decorators. 100% of profits go back to supporting the weaving efforts of the Namtenga Soundo Babisi.
